Why is my Search Engine Different From Google?

I was team-teaching a lesson with an MYP colleague the other day and she projected her search onto the whiteboard. I noticed that a strange search engine I had never seen before came up.

After the lesson, I asked her why she used that one. She said she had no idea. So I asked her if we could take a look into her settings to see what was going on.

In the Chrome [Browser] settings (the three dots on the right next to your profile picture) you can scroll down until you find a setting for the search engine used in the address bar.

Hers was something called "tapufind" and was probably installed along with an extension since she had no recollection of changing her search engine settings.

The Takeaway

Be aware of the extensions you install. They can sometimes change settings such as the search engine or the home page. Go into the settings to make the changes.
