How to Block Website Notifications in Google Chrome

In my role, I have the opportunity to see many grade levels and when going into classrooms I pay particular attention to the skills and issues that students face.

In my recent rounds, I have noticed students in Grades 4-6 struggle with constant website notifications in Chrome. All the students I talked had no idea why they were appearing or how to make them go away.

Students need to learn to read the warnings

The first thing I thought of was how students, and people in general, tend to skip over the popup notifications that the computer gives you.

Why are there notifications?

Notifications are designed to tell you things about your computer. More specifically, Chrome website notifications tell users when websites are updated.

Unfortunately, notifications interrupt concentration. This is especially harmful to younger students so it is more important for them to know they should try to read them. And when in doubt, ask someone to read the notifications so they can decide the appropriate action to take.

OK. How can I manage them?

Scroll down to the Privacy and Settings section of the Settings menu.

In the Site Settings option choose Notifications, then choose the site you want to change. For most sites, you can turn them off.
