Three Things: Number #001

Thing 1

Podcast

EdTech Takeout 78 - Podcast Curriculum / Habitats

Thing 1 is a podcast episode from The EdTech Takeout.

The first idea here is to use podcasts for frontloading or background information. Podcasts are great because students can walk around or go sit outside while listening. Teachers can either make their own or find relevant ones to use.

One idea to use them was to research habitats inside the house or classrooms. Students could explore the ecosystems of the spiders and insects. The class could inquire into the spaces in the room and where insects are. Next, you could check and see if they are there then ask why might they be there. This could also be a great idea for virtual learning or in the winter when going outside is harder.

The point is to get them exercising - thinking inside while learning the curriculum.

Thing 2

Extension

Sir Links A Lot

Imagine this situation. You share a Google Document with your class. The next thing you know is the kids in the class are yelling out that they don’t have access to the document, or and, you get a class full of kids saying they don’t have access. Sir Links A Lot rectifies this by giving you options to adjust the Google Document setting. It also makes it easy to get the links you need to share.

Thing 3

Resource / Tool

Chromebook Simulator

It is tough to show students how to do things on their Chromebooks when you don’t have one. It can be harder to troubleshoot problems when you don’t have one either. The Chromebook Simulator allows you to search for what you want to do with your Chromebook from learning how to locate files to updating the computer. This is a good way for teachers to learn how to use Chromebooks or troubleshoot problems. You could also give these to students to learn on their own.

One More Thing

Extension(s)
YouTube is an awesome tool that has transformed entertainment and learning. The problem can be the ads that YouTube shows. Adblock for YouTube solves this by removing the ads from videos.

Note: Recently a change has been made by YouTube so you see a gray screen before some videos.

ViewPure is a website and applet (like an extension) that will take a YouTube video and strip out the excess. What you will have is a video with no suggestions, no related videos, and no ads. All you will see is the video in a clean webpage.
